Today, after three wonderful days I was joined by friends from Chicago. The women shopped the outlet mall in the Dells. After we all managed to find the perfect item to buy, we grabbed a quick lunch and headed back to sit by the pool and talk. The husband and kids of one arrived in time for dinner. Grilled burgers, chicken, potato salad and fruit. Yum. Served in my favorite spot, the screened porch that looks out on the pool and lake. I called it ” dinner with a view”!

Around that table the laughs were hearty. The conversations, heartfelt. We lingered around the table while the kids headed out for a post dinner swim. I felt so normal with these friends of long standing. I don’t see them nearly as often as I’d like but my job with the four little ones leaves me pretty tired at the end of the day and exhausted at the end of the week. So this is a treat.

The kids stayed in the pool until they hit “prune” stage. As the sun started to go down and the temps cooled we moved inside for dessert. And finally we sat in the great room with the lights off. We watched the day until it had squeezed out the last possible bit of light and slid into night. Still the talking and laughing continued until one by one we called it a night and headed to bed.

Tomorrow the plan is to sun by the pool, swim, nap, talk and repeat. As I type this, freshly showered and sitting on my king size bed, a whiff of campfire smoke from some where nearby drifts in the window. And the utter silence of a north woods night enfolds me.

Goodnight Wisconsin. Thanks, it has been a perfect day!
